Throw Your Own Día de los Niños Party!

Are you wondering how your familia can celebrate Día de los Niños this year? Why not host your own private Día party? It doesn't have to be a lot of work. Just have your child make their own invitations and invite a few of their close friends. Maybe you can have each child bring a copy of their absolute favorite book and let them all take turns reading it. If the book is too long, let them give an official "Book Review" for all their friends. If the children are too young to read yet, let the parents take turns or assign a more experienced reader.

Or how about simply doing a Book Swap Party? If your house is overflowing with books like mine is, then invite your friends to bring over any books that have been gently used and that they might like to trade.

One of the websites I have found and really love is the California State Library's Día de los Niños / Día de los Libros (Day of the Child / Day of the Book) website.

This completely bilingual website includes full text in both Spanish and English. In addition to a history of the holiday, it includes a "Tool Kit" with documents that are helpful for planning your own Día celebration. You can also download many of their beautiful graphics in the form of logos, bookmarks, posters, and book labels. Some of these graphics would be excellent for making your own invitations, bookmarks, buttons, etc. Then you can give them out as party favors!

How are you celebrating Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros?
